Drill Breaks are audio training tools developed by Suhaila Salimpour to provide short, focused practice sessions that help dancers engage directly with fundamental and foundational movements from Suhaila’s Fundamentals level. Delivered in an audio-only format, these recordings encourage internal focus on somatic awareness by guiding attention to the feeling and embodiment of movement. Familiarity with the terminology, cadence, and structure through this format supports the mind-body connection essential for embodied learning. Each Drill Break program is designed for students with experience in the corresponding Suhaila level.
Drill Breaks Core 1: Establishing Essential Movement Patterns
Core 1 supports dancers who have completed or are familiar with Suhaila’s Fundamentals curriculum, focusing on developing essential movement patterns. The exercises encourage mindful body awareness and rhythmic engagement, adaptable for practice both in place and while traveling.
Drill Breaks Core 1.5: Expanding Timing and Movement Range
Core 1.5 bridges the gap between Fundamentals and Foundations and is intended for students with experience in Fundamentals. This level increases focus on timing complexity and broadens movement variations, enhancing adaptability to shifting tempos and expanding physical vocabulary.
Drill Breaks Core 2: Enhancing Movement Economy and Endurance
Core 2 is designed for dancers progressing through Suhaila’s Foundations curriculum. It emphasizes improving movement economy—refining movements to be efficient and purposeful—while building physical endurance. These drills support sustained practice that strengthens consistency and fluidity.
Drill Outs: A Stamina and Endurance Challenge
Drill Outs provide longer, more intensive practice sessions tailored for advanced students experienced in Suhaila’s methodology. These drills challenge rhythmic precision over extended durations, supporting stamina, endurance, and performance readiness.
Personalized Practice for Effective Learning
Across all Drill Breaks, dancers are encouraged to personalize their practice by varying rhythmic emphasis, footwork, and finger cymbal patterns. These adaptable tools empower independent learning, allowing for warm-up, drilling, and cooldown according to individual needs.
