Community through Dance

Creating and developing together through community and the Salimpour method, while honoring SWANAM dance, its traditions, and the cultures from which it derives.

For many dancers, some of the most rewarding parts of the Salimpour experience are practicing, creating, and performing with other dancers. Collectives bring those experiences together, providing a place to build skills, develop choreography, work toward shared performance goals, and be part of a community of dancers who share a commitment to the Salimpour Center mission and programs.

Collectives offer opportunities to grow as a dancer through continued training, musicality, performance preparation, and collaboration. They also play an important role in representing the Salimpour name and supporting responsible representation of SWANAM dance and the music, movement, and cultural traditions from which it derives.

Salimpour Collectives are officially approved groups of currently certified dancers working under the Salimpour name. They operate under the Salimpour Collectives Rules and Guidelines and are separate from the School’s principal performing groups, including Suhaila Dance Company, Repertoire Ensemble, and Bal Anat.

Collectives generally focus on one performance set each year, consisting of one or more choreographies. The goal is to work steadily toward becoming performance-ready and then maintain that level of preparation so the set can be used for performances throughout the year. Choreography selections must be approved by the Director. Participation in specific choreography may depend on a dancer’s demonstrated readiness and qualification for the material. Public performances by Collectives require School approval and must follow applicable requirements for choreography, music, costuming, branding, and presentation.

There are two ways to be part of a Collective: Regional Collectives and the Virtual Collective.

Regional Collectives

Write your awesome label here.
Regional Collectives are groups of certified dancers who want to connect, practice, and perform together locally. Members work together toward shared choreography and performance goals. While each group organizes its own regular practices and activities, Collectives follow School requirements regarding choreography, costuming, branding, and public performance.

Each Regional Collective is an officially approved group with a designated Liaison who serves as the primary point of contact between the Collective and the School. A Regional Collective must maintain a minimum of two active members, and all members must have certification and active membership in the School.

Virtual Collective

The Virtual Collective is designed for dancers who enjoy independent practice but also appreciate being part of something larger—a community working toward shared choreography while honoring each dancer’s individual path.

Each member practices independently, following their own schedule and pace. Members are encouraged to share practice videos, ask questions, celebrate milestones, and support one another. A School Liaison helps keep the group connected.

A Virtual Collective member must have certification with a current Library & Conservatory subscription.
